Abstract
In the present study, we have compared LINE-1 polymorphism in the growth hormone receptor gene and carcass traits in 348 heads of Japanese Black cattles fatten in Kagawa Prefecture. Gene frequency of GHR gene with LINE-1 (L) or without LINE-1 (S) was 0.529 and 0.479, respectively. The estimated breeding values for longissimus muscle area and rib thick ness were greater in LL population than in LS and SS populations, whereas beef marbling score was not significantly different among the populations. The data in the present study suggested that the LINE-1 polymorphism might associate with body weight gain and/or muscle growth, and introducing L type of GHR might be advantage to increases carcass weight in Japanese Black cattle.
