The authors carried out the surveys of abattoirs for wild animals in 2013 and 2108 to investigate their current situation and the problems. They self-evaluated their management using a 5-scale method. The results were 2.58±0.16 (2013), 2.51±0.17 (2018) respectively. Regarding management problems, ‘lack of demand’ was the major problem at 58.5% in 2013 and 48.8% in2018. The numbers of deer slaughtered per day were 12.3±3.5 heads for ‘well managed’ and 5.7±0.9 heads for ‘poor managed’. The sale prices of venison were almost equal for good and bad managements, though 72.7% of ‘good managements’ satisfied the prices, while only 4.0% of ‘bad managements’ did. The authors concluded that the major problems faced by ‘bad managements’ were high costs as well as marketing.
