Abstract

The phospholipid in a sample of cow's colostric fat was extracted with acetone (fraction B). The residue (fraction A) was extracted with alcohol. The alcoholic extract (fraction C) and residue (fraction D) were separated by filtration.
On the fraction B and C, examination was made concerning saponification value, iodine value and contents of phosphor, nitrogen and fatty acids. Furthermore, the fraction C was examined by paper chromatography, gas chromatography and infrared absorption spectra.
The results of these experiments were compared with those of commercial sample of normal butter-fat and lecithin. Disclosing that the phospholipids in cow's colostric fat contained C16, C18 and C1=18 fatty acids.
