Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the Editorial Team of the Circulation Journal, an official journal of the Japanese Circulation Society (JCS), I have several announcements.

Circulation Journal has received its official 2016 impact factor (IF) of 3.544 from Journal Citation Reports® (JCR), placing the Journal 44th among the 126 journals in the Cardiac & Cardiovascular Systems category of the 2016 JCR Science Edition. The IF was attained by the significant contribution to the Journal of many colleagues. We try to publish highly selected articles that attract researchers from a broad spectrum of the cardiovascular field.

Although we receive many excellent clinical research articles, submission of basic science articles is also encouraged. We are receiving only 9% basic science research manuscripts. We are waiting your next submission of basic cardiovascular science papers in addition to the clinical science manuscripts. Of note, the Japanese Circulation Society has just started a new Council, termed Basic Cardiovascular Research (BCVR), and its first Congress will be on January 6–7, 2018 in Tokyo. We hope many young scientists are becoming interested in the basic science of cardiovascular medicine.

Also, a new online-only fully open journal will be launched and known as Circulation Reports. Circulation Journal receives nearly 1,400 manuscripts each year but currently can publish only 300 of those. Some of the manuscripts transferred from the Circulation Journal, as well as newly submitted manuscripts, will be considered for Circulation Reports. A working group headed by Professor Koichi Node, Saga University, has been organized and the group members are eagerly preparing for the first publication of this new journal in 2018. The first Editor-in-Chief of Circulation Reports is Professor Masataka Sata, Tokushima University.

Finally, the Editorial Team of the Circulation Journal greatly appreciates your continued support and contributions to the Journal. We look forward to your next submission.
