It had been known that a kidney extract containing adenosine triphosphatase activity had some injurious action on the blood vessel. In the present experiment, canine kidney extract was injected intravenously for the periods of two to nine months on thirteen young mongrel dogs. In addition, small doses of butter, cholesterol suspension or methimazole were given. Histological investigation revealed sclerotic changes in the arteries of those organs including the aorta, spleen, kidney and the lung.
