Post Professional education in The United States

【Purpose】
Education is the most important component to develop the profession. In The United States, there are several ways to develop your career. Residency and fellowship programs are the post professional clinical education for clinicians. Post professional graduate programs are including Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Science, Doctor of Health Science, Transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy, Doctor of Education, and Master of Science. Additionally for researcher, there are some post doctorate programs are available.
【Methods】
Using google serch for post profesional education for physical therapy in The United Sates.
【Results】
Residency and fellowship were established in 1999. Currently, residency programs have 221 programs. Fellowship programs have 42 programs. In order to be evaluated and be accredited for the program, it will take almost three and half years. There are about 130 post professional graduate programs in the United States.Physical Therapist who had finished residency and fellowship program will become master clinician. Graduating from residency program is showing higher score in the specialist certification examination.
【Discussion】
It is important to know about the post professional education in other countries. The United States have developed great amount of post professional education programs. This information would be beneficial for other country to develop their post professional education programs.
