Improvement of Mobility of the Disabled in a Station considering Types of Disability and Route Distance

Abstract

Recently developing barrier free facilities for handicaps in a station such as escalators and elevators are studded considering their easy installation into the space avoiding existing other facilities. Thus the continuity of mobility for handicaps is not always satisfied. This paper describes the subjects of the handicaps' mobility in a station area, and classifies the types of handicaps and then proposed the ratio of mobility between the desirable and actual distances. Based on this mobility indicator, the improvements of mobility, such as guide signs and route assistance are discussed.
