Abstract
This study aimed to obtain knowledge that contributes to preservation of the rice terrace landscape, by showing the visual characteristics of the rice terrace landscape from the standpoint of different perspectives of residents and visitors on Takayama District in Toyono Town, where the land consolidation project is in progress. It was shown that the landscape elements perceived by residents and visitors have commonalities. On the other hand, it was found that there were differences in the viewpoints and evaluation criteria for landscape evaluation. To preserve the rice terraced landscape, it is important to develop a space management including rice fields that residents focused on and the mountain and rural landscapes that visitors focused on mainly. Conservation of landscapes from major viewpoints, and enhancement of landscape planning and various systems will also be useful.
