This study aimed to consider the way of park improvement from the relationship between spatial structure and staying behavior, focusing on Ama-Site Park. First, we clarified the spatial structure from the components of the physical environment characteristics and the natural environment characteristics in each area divided by the park path. Second, by staying behavior survey, we showed the attribute classification, staying behavior, and staying place in each area. It was shown that staying behavior occurred remarkably in the covered plaza, around the facilities, and around the tall trees. Tall trees are an important factor that promotes retention staying behavior, and the possibility of planting trees densely to expand and induce retention space was shown.

We researched the conditions which the urban park would be used effectively and their relevance in terms of actual use and management. The conditions of a park's effective use defined number of users of that park, and the number of park users was confirmed by visiting that park. We also conducted research of the factors that might be involved for number of park users. We surveyed 19 city parks in Asahi-ward, Osaka City, and analyzed. As a result, it is found that the main factors contributing to the high number of city park users are the large area of the park and the proximity of an elementary school. We think these factors are said the conditions which the city park would be used effectively.

In recent years, sidewalk café projects have attracted much attention in Japan. However, few papers have been published on sidewalk café design and design methods. Therefore, the purpose of this survey was to identify suitable designs for sidewalk café. The survey employed a seat selection questionnaire for each partition using images and a seat selection questionnaire with floor surface changes using 3DCG. The results of the experiment showed that the seat selection tendency differed by partition. In the questionnaire using CG, no significant change in seat selection tendency due to changes in the floor surface was observed, but it was clear that objects may have a significant impact on seat selection.

The purpose of this study is to explore the potential of open spaces as workplaces from a knowledge creation perspective at the Osaka Business Park (OBP). The study consisted of a field survey of seating space at outdoor configuration in September 2022. In November of the same year, a questionnaire survey was conducted about worker usage. The results showed that OBP has many comfortable seating arrangements and a medium green environment, and that workers place importance on environmental factors such as greenery and landscaping. Next, to explore environmental factors that contribute to knowledge creation, an experiment was conducted in the field using a mind map. It was found that a moderate landscape with green visibility of approximately 10-40% was effective for knowledge creation.

One of the most notable cultural policy initiatives in recent years has been the "European Capital of Culture "program, which is being implemented in the European region. Each year, one to three cities in Europe are awarded the title of "European Capital of Culture. The "European Capital of Culture" is a long-term development of urban cultural policies, and city-wide cultural events are held throughout the year. Cities that have been awarded the title have seen an effective impact on their economies and societies, as well as on tourism promotion through increased social visibility, and have attracted attention from within and outside Europe. This study examines the transformation of cultural policy in the EU, focusing on the objectives of the "European Capital of Culture" and the evolution of the selection of cities.

As for Aqua Metropolis Osaka, waterside space has been regenerated. While progress has been made in the development of the waterfront area, the image transition people have of the waterfront space have not been clarified. In this study, using newspaper articles, we clarified the image transition of waterside space through text mining analysis of descriptive terms. Analysis using the co-occurrence network diagram revealed that many of the images were related to events in the waterfront space and surrounding towns, to the development of the Aqua Metropolis Osaka regeneration, and to the historical culture of the waterfront space and its area. It was suggested that, although the images were strongly dependent on specific locations during the initial period of the revitalization of Osaka as a waterfront city, the images have diversified at each location in accordance with the changes in the efforts of the Aqua Metropolis Osaka.

This study aimed to clarify the characteristics of regional resources related to traditional local industries and current status of the Regional Plan for the Protection and Utilization of Cultural Properties. A literature survey was conducted on groups of related cultural properties. Consequently, it was reconfirmed that traditional local industries are deeply related to local beliefs. As a project for the protection and utilization of undesignated cultural properties related to traditional local industries, it was confirmed that local governments plan to continue to conduct surveys to value undesignated cultural properties that are not included in the groups of related cultural properties. However, in some municipalities, it remains unclear which measures will be implemented for undesignated cultural properties. Furthermore, the study found that there are few project plans addressing issues related to the sustainability of traditional local industries, such as the preservation of industry-related land use, training of successors, and securing of raw materials.

There have been many studies on how residents perceive a city, starting with Kevin Lynch's work. In Akashi City, Hyogo Prefecture, the central area of the city has been in decline since 1970. This study aims to clarify how the image of the city changes by differences of the urban environment and the lifestyles of its residents, with a particular focus on the differences in the image of the city between Akashi residents who frequently use cars and motorcycles and those who do not. In this survey was used to compare how the number of map elements drawn by respondents varied depending on whether they were frequent car/motorcycle users or not. The results suggest that frequent car/motorcycle users may draw fewer elements on their image maps.

The purpose of this paper is to examine how redevelopment in Glasgow from the 1940s to the 1950s has characterized the subsequent reorganization of urban space. The results show that although the redevelopment of Glasgow from the 1940s to the 1950s was intended to solve urban problems, in reality it focused on the number of stock and neglected quality, resulting in the expansion of problematic areas. In such areas, vacant and abandoned land is often left unutilized on the sites of demolished houses.

This study clarifies the characteristics of the revitalization projects in which the private sectors participate. The projects are categorized into three types based on the reasons for business entry: (1) locally-based type, which the sectors join in housing estate regeneration due to their regional connection, (2) new entry type, which the sectors try to begin the business in the housing estates and contribute to the revitalization and (3) responsibility-based type, which the developers join in housing estate regeneration with the responsibility. Suitable projects are selected for each type. Through the interview survey to the stakeholders participating in the projects and analysis on the collected data, a distribution map of the projects is created. The results reveal that in type (1), the government is heavily involved, and the projects are distributed regardless of the size of the issue. In type (2), the projects are gradually transferring the initiative to the private sector and work on the specific issues. In type (3), the various projects are implemented by the sectors based on the master plan for the revitalization, enabling comprehensive problems to solve through collaboration.

The purpose of this study is to clarify the content of discussions and the citizen participation in the site utilization process after the closure of elementary schools in Osaka City. In many cases, the discussions at the site utilization study stage don't reach the stage of reflecting the discussions in the utilization plan. In many cases, the site utilization planning is outsourced to contractors, and there are few opportunities to hear residents' opinions. Only simple needs assessments are conducted prior to the formulation of the plan. The plan for utilization of the closed elementary schools prepared by the operator does not mention discussions with residents, and the emphasis is on profitability. On the other hand, if opportunities for participation are provided up to the creation of a utilization policy, discussions are more likely to be reflected in the utilization plan. In Ikuno Ward, residents demanded both the maintenance of the regional base and its utilization for community development at the stage of consolidation and closure consideration.

In response to the location normalization plan, outside of the residential promotion zones, there are concerns about a decrease in population and the number of facilities. It may lead a decline in livability and community activities. This study aims to extract and problems to be considered for appropriate urban shrinkage based on the data about daily activities and awareness pf people living outside of the residential promotion zones. From the results of the analysis of the relationship between the population distribution and facilities’ location, it is revealed that several area will become difficult to access to the nearest facilities on foot if the number of facilities decrease or people stop driving their car. Additionally , the results of an online questionnaire survey showed that residents have low intention to move to the residential promotion zones from the outside of the zone. However, people living in the outside of the residential promotion zones are simultaneously concerned about the deterioration of living convenience around them. The results also indicate that preparing for migration takes time. Therefore, our analysis suggests the need to have people choose to live in the residential promotion zones before the age that they acquire their houses.

In addition, it provides notification and recommendation system for building and development activities outside of the area. But there are cities that the number of guided facilities located in the area is decreasing. This study clarifies the location status of guided facilities and the operation status of the notification and recommendation system for guided facilities built outside of the urban function induction area. As a result, it is clear that the majority of the guided facilities built in the urban function induction area are not due to the guidance by the Urban Facility Location Plan. In addition, it was found that it would be difficult for local governments to provide suggestions, guidance or recommendations because the system has no enforcement power over the guidance of facilities.

The study then sought to understand the multifaceted value of cultural properties from the perspective of how local residents relate to cultural properties. In addition, the effectiveness of the method of collecting and analyzing the experiences and memories of local residents related to places at different time scales was discussed. The differences in the experiences and memories of cultural properties and other "places" at various time scales allowed us to clarify the characteristics of "places. The combination of "places" with different characteristics at different time scales and the relationship between them enabled us to decipher the character of the region. For these reasons, this method was found to be effective.

The results showed that before the disaster, about 15% of store representatives were proactive and about 80% were passive in their relocation intentions. On the other hand, about 50% of the representatives of both temporary and permanent stores were reluctant to relocate after the disaster, while the number of those who were proactive increased to about 20%. In addition, the representatives of stores that were more aware of tsunami risk and had implemented disaster prevention measures tended to be more likely to intend to relocate, while the representatives of stores that were dissatisfied with the location or intended to take over the business tended to be more likely to intend to relocate after the disaster. The need for prior location planning and policies based on the business environment was pointed out.

As a result, we found that none of the plans were granted a patent, and the Kyoto Prefectural Government made the decision based on public interest. The two patented and the radial track that was not granted a patent connected the city to the surrounding villages on and along the main roadways, and thus were at the forefront of urbanization and population growth. It is worth mentioning that the electric track was expected to serve as a supplement to the roads, and that the villagers and promoters of the project were aware of the local issues and appealed for the need for an electric track.

This study clarified the actual conditions of use of station buildings and the actual conditions of users' circulation, using JR Wakayama Station as a case study in order to examine the station building as the starting point of the station town space. The most popular stores are restaurants, bookstores, character goods, household goods, and drugstores. Regarding the actual conditions of users' circulation, we found that the number of people who went from ticket gates to the station building was greater than the number of people who went from the station building to the exit gates, and that people exiting from the ticket gates on the B1 and 1F were more likely to stop by a store than those exiting from the ticket gates on the 2F. It was revealed that more users of restaurants and bookstores came from the ticket gates, and more users of coffee shops came from the entrances and exits. The balanced arrangement of stores in the station building suggests that care was taken to disperse the circulation routes.

In this study, I analyzed the planning and design properties of interaction spaces in station squares located in urban areas from the viewpoint of daily interaction. In terms of planning properties, the interaction space-centered type and the interaction space-connected type were also identified. These two types have interaction space at a high level, ranging from 10% to 40%, and the layouts with high connectivity between the station and the interaction space. In terms of design properties, it can be said that, for the individual comfort, such as drinking and eating, it is effective to install a circular seat with a step, plantings, and lighting in the front, and plantings in the back. For intimate interaction, it is effective to install the seat in a location that is close to a flow line. In addition, for indirect interaction with others, such as watching people, it is effective to install the seat in a space where they can see a busy flow line or a square where people are playing.

In recent years, the removal of traffic signals that are no longer needed is being considered to review how traffic safety facilities are maintained. Among traffic signals, single-flashing traffic lights are being removed nationwide on a priority basis. However, residents do not always show their approval for their removal because of the traffic safety. Therefore, in order to promote appropriate consensus building, it is necessary to clarify the factors that influence residents' approval or disapproval of the removal of these lights. In this study, we analyze residents' attitudes toward the removal of single-flashing traffic lights and the factors that influence these attitudes. As a result, it was found that it is possible to increase the awareness of residents in favor of the removal of single-flashing traffic lights by providing appropriate information and by holding face-to-face explanatory meetings.

"Extraordinariness" is one of the most essential elements of travel, and it is considered to be more valuable in a space that is psychologically and distantly distant from everyday areas. How does "Extraordinary" exist in today's world, where the forms of travel are changing after the Corona Pandemic? In this study, two types of extraordinary are considered to exist, the extraordinary of places with spot-like characteristics, and the extraordinary approaches to these places due to convenience of transportation and cost. The research methods included a survey of the distance between residential areas and extraordinary tourist attractions and a questionnaire survey of the relationship between the spread of extraordinary tourist attractions and transportation facilities. The relationship with psychological distance was clarified by visualizing these results in GIS.

In this study, I conducted interviews with event organizers and conducted a questionnaire survey of participants and vendors in order to clarify their awareness of monthly shopping street events, as well as the benefits and issues involved. The results showed that those who have participated in the event multiple times are highly motivated to participate again, and that the event has become a regular part of their daily lives. The survey also revealed that one advantage of the event was that visitors were able to meet stall holders, and stall holders were able to meet other stall holders and people in the shopping arcade, creating a place where they could meet many other people.

This study aimed to obtain knowledge that contributes to preservation of the rice terrace landscape, by showing the visual characteristics of the rice terrace landscape from the standpoint of different perspectives of residents and visitors on Takayama District in Toyono Town, where the land consolidation project is in progress. It was shown that the landscape elements perceived by residents and visitors have commonalities. On the other hand, it was found that there were differences in the viewpoints and evaluation criteria for landscape evaluation. To preserve the rice terraced landscape, it is important to develop a space management including rice fields that residents focused on and the mountain and rural landscapes that visitors focused on mainly. Conservation of landscapes from major viewpoints, and enhancement of landscape planning and various systems will also be useful.

Many rural areas of Japan face dwindling and increasingly elderly population, which threaten the sustainability of the society. To address these challenges, the "associated population" has recently been gaining attention from government and municipalities as a key factor in revitalizing local regions. Empirical research is needed to ensure that such relationship is sustainable for both parties. However, because the concept of associated population is vague and broad, it is important to understand its actual status. In this study, to clarify the elements that deepen relationships with the community, we conducted a survey focusing on activities in Hida City. The main findings are as follows: 1) The presence of friends in Hida City and participation in on-site activities are related to community attachment and sense of responsibility. 2) On-site activities will contribute to the continuation of the relationship. 3) The perceived attractiveness of on-site activities from residents when joining the Hida City Fan Club may influence the subsequent deepening of the relationship.

Semba, mainly known as the commercial center of Osaka, is where the square grid block was developed by Toyotomi Hideyoshi and still remains its historical architectural features. Due to the incentive systems such as Semba building rested and comprehensive design system, there is a unique style left today that large and smell blocks are coexisting, which might adversely affect the townscape of Semba. Therefore, we will investigate what kind of blocks are still remained in Semba district. In addition, we will further analyze and evaluate its influence of the blocks. In the built-up areas of large cities in Japan, urban renewal by individual rebuilding is progressing, and there is concern about the transformation of townscapes. In this study, we focused on the transition of cityscape rules and the actual situation of urban area renewal along the Midosuji avenue, and considered the formation process of urban landscape. As a result, along the Midosuji avenue, the building forms are controlled by the cityscape rules, and a new skyline with eaves heights of 50m is being formed. We grasped the trend that the wall materials of roadside buildings are standardized to stone and glass due to the intention of the designer. it was shown that how to create continuity of roadside buildings is an issue in future cityscape control.

In this study, I considered how to create a townscape by applying landscape rules in a business area that has individuality as a town but does not have a distinctive townscape that reflects that personality. I examined examples of initiatives for the Doshomachi-dori Area Landscape Development Agreement. This initiatives are characterized by the guidance of "Tamari no Mori "at the set back area of Semba and design keywords for townscape formation. Based on the verification of the case, I point out of the importance in such business areas, the formulation of rules by regional cooperation communities, the clarification of the future image of the townscape by accumulating the operation of the rules, the elements that provide clues to the future image of the townscape, and the Incremental rule updates.

In recent years, Community management has been attracting attention with the aim of increasing the sustainability of communities. One such initiative is community business (CB). However, it is difficult for governments and other organizations to support activities that use business methods for community development within the concept of CB. In this study, we defined "community development business" as a business that meets the follows: 1) Limited area of activity. 2) Aiming to solve community problems and improve the attractiveness of the community. 3) Profitable. Based on the results of case studies of community development businesses, the requirements to be fulfilled by community development businesses are divided into essential requirements and incentive requirements, and the possibility that these requirements can be used as evaluation indicators for the government's future support of community development businesses is described.

“Social mix” is an urban policy concept intended for inclusion of deprived neighbourhoods, which occurred in the 1990s with the HOPE VI policy in the U.S. and has been implemented in various ways, eras, and cities. Even today, there are cases where social mix is used as an element of revitalization projects in historic districts and declining areas.
