Abstract
This study clarified the actual management of repatriate dormitories and the debate surrounding their abolition, focusing on the Takanogawa Dormitory and the Jonan Agricultural Factory. At the Takanogawa dormitory, the dormitory was managed by the residents' association. The discussion over the abolition of the dormitory involved a debate between the landowner side and the Kyoto Prefectural Government, which demanded the early abolition of the dormitory. The owners made concessions, such as building a housing complex and renovating part of the dormitory, and demanded the return of the land. The Jonan Agricultural Factory formed an agricultural community through the joint management of the farmland and other assets. In the discussion the abolition, farmland was the foundation of life for the residents and was a major part of their lives after the abolition. There was a huge outcry as farmland was taken away through abolition.
