Abstract
The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between the location of facilities (commercial facilities, public utilities, residential complexes, etc,) around train station and the transition of main road (national roads, prefectural roads, and historic roads) in the densely populated earstern and southern region of Shiga Prefecture, which promotes a "Compact and Networks" development strategy while observing the presence of commercial facilities along major roads in suburban areas. The selected research target of southern and eastern Shiga's 39 stations was classified into 17 detailed categories based on the viewpoint of main roads, allowing for analysis of facility locations. The results revealed that many station areas were influenced by the presence of main roads, and different characteristics were observed depending on these roads.
