The syntheses of Zn- stevensite have carried out from aqueous starting materials where an implied maximum temperature does not exceed the boiling point of the aqueous starting material under normal atmospheric condition. The obtained materials were characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM and SAED. The results indicated that the formation of Zn-smectite is directly influenced by pH, relative saturation states of individual components and temperature – factors that also dictate the aqueous species dominant in the starting materials.
