Thermally assisted magnetic recording is one of promising future techniques to improve magnetic recording memory density. This paper reports the research subsidized by our college about 1) local surface plasmon antenna to confine a laser spot, and 2) nano-particle magnetic recording media for thermally assisted magnetic recording. The plasmon antennas are evaluated by simulation and fabricated by a photo-resist process or a focused ion beam process. It is revealed that the particle media combined with the surface plasmon technique have a potential to confine a laser spot into a particle size.
