In order to grasp the influence of oxygen and sulphur upon the mechanical special properties of bearing steels there were made contact fatigue life test together with rotating-bending, machining and compressive fracture tests and the underwritten results were obtained.
(1) Regardless the rolling ratio and specimen sampling direction the contact fatigue life special properties of B10 and B50 lower when sulphur and oxygen increase. The life of 16mm dia. material of bigger rolling ratio is longer than the material of 90mm sq. and that of parallel direction of rolling is longer than that of right angle direction.
(2) The rotating-bending fatigue strength is not influenced by S amount if the rolling ratio is big and in the rolling parallel direction, but if the rolling ratio is small and in the right angle direction the fatigue lowers if S is increased.
(3) The influence of S upon the machinability gets rapidly improved up to 0.02%, but after that the improvement ratio gets slow.
