The consumption of graphite electrodes in electric arc furnace can be classified into two; one is the sudden shortening of electrode column due to electrode breakage and another is the incrmental consumption of electrode column due to oxidation and sublimation.
The incremental consumption of electrode column can greatly be reduced depending on the operating condition of the arc furnace. In order to do so, it is necessary to know about the mechanism of consumption in detail.
This paper describes some considerations on graphite electrodes consumption based on the actual operating data.
