Asteatosis, meaning dry skin, is found in senile xerosis caused by aging and in infants with immature skin function. It is also associated with diseases such as atopic dermatitis, ichthyosis, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease, and arises with treatment by some anticancer agents and radiation therapy. Asteatosis is often accompanied by itching and can progress into eczema due to scratching. Although it is necessary to treat asteatosis with a moisturizer, including prescription drugs and self-medication products, in accordance with the disease and skin condition, there are no clear treatment criteria. Therefore, publication of a guideline for asteatosis treatment is desired.
