By the use of electro-photometer, Mn in soils was determined as to the following items. 1) Easily soluble Mn, 2) Absorption of Mn by soils and 3) Dissolution of Mn, absorbed by soil. Of l) a ratio of total Mn (conc. HCl sol.) to easily soluble Mn (exchangeable after PEECH'S amm. acetate method) seemed to be higher in the soils irom sedimentary rocks. (see Table 2.) Of 2) in the case of containing K in exchangeable form, the soils absorbed more Mn than in the case of H or Ca. (see Table 5,) Of 3) the dissolution of absorbed Mn from the soils was retarded, when the pH of the solution was increased more than about 6.0. (see Table 7.).
