Information Activities in Business Enterprises : In the case of the technical information department of Teijin Limited

Abstract

Information activities in business enterprises, especially those in the technical information department of Teijin Limited, are considered. The duty of the department is to give technical information for research and development of new projects of the company. Special features of the department are: that the department is under direct control of the technical director, that the department does not take care of materials and books, that some of its staff members are stationed in each laboratory, and that staff members are composed of veterans of over 10 years service in the company. Methods of studying information needs (inquiries interviews, personal contacts), practices of acquiring and retrieval of infcrmation, and future problems are also explained.
