Japan Farmdoc Association (JFA) had its Decade Day on last August 19, since it had been formally established in 1 968 . It is a voluntarily organized body, composed of 27 subscribers in Japan to Farmdoc and Central Patents Index, Section B, which known as worldwide documentation service for pharmaceutical patents and have been published by Derwent Publications Ltd., London. JFA has its three principal purposes to be pursued, i.e., (1) Improvement of search capabilities of the members to carry forward their activities applying Farmdoc documentation systems, especially using sophiscated code system thereof, (2) Unification and arrangement of suggestions and recommendations for improvement of the systems and the materials in Farmdoc to be addressed to Derwent and Nippon Gijutsu Boeki K. K., agent for Derwent in Japan, and (3) Intimate exchange of informations to inspire and to improve documentation capabilities and activities among the members. Brief history of JFA is illustrated in this article along seven stages of its developing activities, referring to changes in Farmdoc system.
