Abstract
It is proposed to estimate the comprehensiveness of a database by means of personal author name. This method is based on comparison of a author's works contained in the database with all of his contributions to fall within the scope and coverage of the database. Ten authors were designated reliable cooperators to confirm effectiveness of the method. Output of search on INIS database for 1975-1980 by each author name was sent to the author concerned. He was asked to decide whether the articles in the output were his or not and to add missing works to the list. The articles checked and supplemented by the author in the returned list were compared with the INIS subject scope and coverage. Thus, a list of his articles to be contained in the INIS database was completed. The articles in the complete list were searched again on the same INIS database by other retrieval keys, and ratio of the comprehensiveness was determined. In conclusion from the test, details are presented on conditions and restrictions to be noticed for the application of the method.
