Hanoi city in Vietnam is one of the metropolitan cities in the world that have the highest of motorcycle trip share. It is about 63% (based on 2005 data), which means that most of the trips made in Hanoi city are using motorcycle. Even compared to other Southeast Asia countries, this share is significantly higher. Despite of its extreme differences in motorcycle ownership compared to other countries, as far as the authors aware, no study has trying to explain the reason underlying this trend before. Whether it is merely because of differences in infrastructure, economy and policy conditions or it is a Vietnamese unique behaviour. Understanding how unique motorcycle ownership behaviour in Vietnam would help us to understand more about individual choice behaviours among developing countries travellers.
