Abstract
Moving sidewalks are a mode of people that fall into the category of continuous people movers. The attempts to install and improve moving sidewalks are recently increasing in accordance with the rising concern for transfer systems of urban public transport. This paper aims to suggest a criterion of economic feasibility for installing a moving sidewalk. To do this, we estimate the minimum pedestrian flow for installing moving sidewalks. We determine whether the moving sidewalk should be installed or not by comparing actual pedestrian flows with the minimum value. We also conduct a case study based on real observed data on Nowon subway station, Seoul, Korea.
