Abstract

In this study, a comparative Life Cycle Cost (LCC) assessment between electric two-wheelers (E2W) and motorized two-wheelers (M2W) has been made to discover the economic feasibility of adopting the E2W over the M2W in the Indian context. The LCC model framework includes cost-related components such as acquisition cost, operation cost, maintenance cost, and resale value for estimating the LCC over a 10-year assessment period, with 2020 serving as the base year and 2030 serving as the end of the assessment period. For the analysis, the average values estimated based on data derived from the model specifications of E2W and M2W were used. According to the findings, the E2W has approximately 40% lower LCC than the M2W, with battery replacement cost being the critical cost component over the life cycle of the E2W. Based on the findings, policy implications have been proposed to promote E2W on a larger scale in India.
