This study compares Japanese and Indonesian drivers' perceptions of traffic information and route-choice behavior. The data were obtained from a web survey and roadside interviews with toll road users in both countries. Hypothetical choices showing the range of expected travel times and tolls were obtained for behavior modeling through a stated preference survey. The respondents were grouped, and a binary logit model of route choice was created for each. Evidently, the Japanese drivers did not depend on the displayed traffic information and preferred their own route. Among the Indonesian drivers, those with more driving experience, middle-to-high monthly expenses, or a high level of education were unlikely to be aware of traffic information. The Japanese group that was aware of and dependent on traffic information had the highest value of time; however, the Indonesian group with the same characteristics had the lowest value of time.
