The Impact of Accessibility Facilities on High Speed Railway (HSR) Demand

The first HSR in the Southeast Asia region connects Jakarta – Bandung (± 140 Km). It saves around 40min travel time between those cities, serving Halim-Karawang-Padalarang-Tegaluar. Meanwhile, Karawang station will be located in a developing area for the industrial and residential areas between Deltamas and THK. Accessibility is a need to connect the area and station. The study observes the effect of proposed accessibility on the potential demand improvement. The mode choice model is based on a previous study in 2019. Applying the discrete choice model shows that the potential demand in 2024 (1^st operation) is 32.620 pax/day. There is a plan for adding a 1.6km road (towards THK) and around 100m bridges (towards Deltamas). The paper finds an increased demand for Karawang station ±15%. The result indicates that accessibility has a significant role in ensuring sustainability demand.
