Abstract

This study examines the environmental and economic impacts of the SCMaglev system, Linear Chuo Shinkansen, using a Spatial Computable General Equilibrium (SCGE) model. By analyzing transportation demand shifts, the study assesses the project’s contribution to reducing CO2 emissions and improving regional economic benefits. Results indicate that this new SCMaglev system significantly decreases emissions by shifting passengers from high-emission road transport while enhancing economic connectivity. However, achieving full decarbonization by 2050 requires additional measures such as electric vehicle adoption and congestion management. This research provides insights into sustainable transport policies and the role of high-speed SCMaglev line in mitigating climate change.
