It has been 12 years since the 6-year pharmacy course started in 2006. Regarding such courses, in 2004, the Central Council for Education proposed the “establishment of third-party evaluation systems” as one of the first priorities. Such evaluation is significant in that, by “judging” that 6-year pharmacy courses provided by universities are “in line with” the evaluation standards specified by the Japan Accreditation Board for Pharmaceutical Education (JABPE), it is “objectively guaranteed” that the courses ensure the “socially required quality of pharmacist-training education”. On the basis of the results of such evaluation, this presentation aims to share necessary information from the perspectives of the ways in which 6-year pharmaceutical education is provided in universities, particularly of the importance of internal quality assurance systems, with which universities maintain and improve educational research based on their own responsibility.
