The global container ship handling volume has reached approximately 1.7 billion TEU, increasing its importance. This increase is making it challenging to respond using conventional human-based methods. Therefore, this study aims to develop a novel mathematical optimization model with the objective of minimizing transportation costs. By establishing a systematic container transportation network, we will lay a crucial foundation for future developments. We analyzed the data from the perspectives of transport volume, efficiency, and cost. The results showed that increasing ship capacity increases transport volume, but the rate of increase gradually slows down. By deploying ships of different capacities on each route, transport efficiency can be improved. While utilizing short-distance routes contributes to cost reduction, using long-distance routes leads to increased costs.
