A series of monosubstituted ferrocene derivatives, [4-[ω-(cholesteryloxycarbonyl)alkoxycarbonyl]phenyl]ferrocene (abbreviated hereafter CAPF-n, where n is the carbon number of the flexible methylene chain), have been synthesized. Thermal properties of these compounds have been studied by differential scanning calorimeter and polarizing microscope. In the present study, the dynamic viscoelasticity for CAPF-8 was measured as a function of temperature. In the heating process, no abrupt drop of the storage modulus of elasticity (G') was observed around the clearing temperature. In the liquid state, the storage modulus of elasticity (G') decreased consecutively with increasing temperature. The behavior is different from the general behavior of the liquid crystals.
