Recently, studies of photoalignment process have been active for aligning low molecular liquid-crystals(LCs) instead of the rubbing process. We investigated photoreactive side-chain polymer liquid crystals having a cinnamoylalkyloxybiphenyl group. In this paper, photoreactive side-chain polymer liquid crystals comprising a 4-(methoxycinnamoyl-hexyloxy)-4'-(biphenytoxyhexyl) group were synthesized. These polymer films were irradiated by linearly polarized UV light and investigated the alignment behavior of LCs on them.
