Carrier transport characteristic in the chiral smectic C phase of the 2-phenylnaphthalene derivative, which exhibited ferroelectricity and photoconductivity was studied with steady-state and transit photoconductivity measurement, in order to investigate the effect of the ferroelectricity on the carrier-transport in the phase. The results of the experiments indicate no influence of the ferroelectricity on the carrier mobility and photoconductivity, perhaps because the spontaneous polarization in the phase was too small(<1nC/cm2).
