The synthesis and properties of chiral 2-phenylpropionic acid derivatives were studied in the purpose of application as chiral additive for various liquid crystal devices. These compounds showed lower viscosity and larger helical twisting power compared with available chiral compounds. The relationship between structure and properties of these compounds were discussed.
