A polarizerless reflective guest-host (GH) LCD, which exhibits high luminance and good legibility, has been fabricated by using NLC with a negative Δε that is doped with nanomaterial molecules, fulleren C60, and dichroic dye molecules, where the NLCs are homeotroptically aligned without rubbing. It is considered that the doped C60 molecules may play a role in reducing the order parameter of the host NLC, and in turn, the contrast ratio is enhanced because the transmittance of the field induced black state in our GH-LCD is lower than that in conventional GH-LCD without C60.
