We studied focusing properties of liquid crystal(LC) microlens with elliptically-patterned electrodes to collimate beam of a laser diode (LD) by using numerical simulation of LC molecular orientations of 3D-FDM. It is found that the refractive power becomes maximum at about 2 of ellipticity of patterned-electrodes. LD beam is converged in the direction of minor axes of the LC microlens.
