We studied the application of pyrano[3,2-c][1]benxzopyan system as a core structure of pyrano[3,2-c][1]benxzopyan system as a core structure of new components of liquid crystal mixtures. The parent pyranobenzopyran can be prepared in one pot reaction by the intramolecular [4+2] cycloaddition of substituted orthoquinonemethides, which are inturn generated from salicylaldehydes and 4-alken-1-ols. Many compounds thus obtained were evahinted by Tc, Δn, kinematic viscosity (η), and viscosity coefficient (ηr) upon addition to the base LC mixture by 10 wt%. The length of alkyl substituents on the C ring affected the Tc, Δn, η, and ηr of LC mixmres.
