抄録

Some derivatives of 4-(4-Alkoxyphenoxycarbonyl)phenyl 5-cyano-2-furancarboxylates were synthesized. The higher members show a smectic A phase with a bilayer arrangement. The members form a Langmuir and Langumuir-Blodgctt films. The layer structure of both states was examined by an X-ray diffraction measurement, and is discussed in terms of the molecular structure calculated by semi-empirical molecular orbital method.
