抄録

A physical mechanism of the polymer-stabilization effect in a blue phase was discussed. Localization of polymers in disclinations which are necessarily generated in a blue phase to form a double twist structure of molecular arrangement is likely to be a dominant factor. An electro-optical switching with a response time of 100 μs was demonstrated for the stabilized blue phase at room temperature.
