Liquid crystalline semiconductors exhibiting smectic phases below room temperature, cyclohexylethylterthiophene derivatives are synthesized. A mixture of terthiophene derivatives exhibits SmB and highly ordered smectic phases down to -100 ℃. Hole and electron mobility in the mixture are 1×10^<-3> cm^2/Vs at room temperature, and its carrier transport characteristics is found to be described by the Gaussian disorder model, giving σand Σ to be 50 meV and 1.7 respectively, which are quite smaller than those of amorphous organic semiconductors.
