A certain dialkylated achiral thermotropic nematic compound was found to exhibit a two-dimensional ferroelectric nematic, when spread on the water surface as a Langmuir monolayer. The monolayer has a larger spontaneous polarization than DOBAMBC, and shows a fast electro-optic switching with a microsecond response time under a low electric field.
