Abstract
We have studied optical properties of poly (9, 9-dioctylfluorene) (PFO) thin films prepared by cooling from the liquid crystalline phase on rubbed polyimide (PI) alignment layers. The PFO thin films are found to be highly oriented, with the orientational order parameters evaluated by means of steady-state polarized absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy to be dependent on the cooling rates from the liquid crystalline phase. It is also found that the excimer emission becomes more remarkable in the PFO thin films with higher order parameters.
