Abstract
Liquid crystalline molecules which linked between 4-hydroxy4'-biphenylcarbonitrile and p-substituted or 3, 4-dinitrophenol with α, ω-dibromoalkane were prepared. Furthermore, novel liquid crystalline dimers were synthesized from 4-hydroxy4'-biphenylcarbonitrile, 4'-hydoroxy4-biphenylcarboxylic acid, p-substituted or 3, 4-dinitrophenols, and α, ω-dibromoalkanes. We studied the substituent effect of the phenoxy ring, especially the effect of the nitro group of the phenoxy ring at 3-position.
