Abstract
We synthesized new liquid crystalline oligomers, such as trimer, tetramer, pentamer and hexamer, from 4'-hydroxy-4-biphenylcarbonitrile, 4'-hydroxy-4-biphenylcarboxylic acid and α, ω-dibromoalkane. The liquid crystalline properties of the compounds were analyzed by differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and the polarizing microscope. Interestingly the physical properties of the tetramer, the pentamer and the hexamer were different from these of the dimer and the trimer.
