Some disc-shaped triphenylene derivatives with terminal functional groups at the adjacent two or one long chains were synthesized in order to qualitatively investigate on the correlation between hexagonal columnar mesomorphism and rotational dynamics of molecule around the columnar axis. The effect of intermolecular hydrogen bonding interaction among the terminal functional groups on the Col_h behavior was discussed with some evidences of temperature dependent IR spectra.
