Correlation of phase behavior, fluorescence spectra and photodimerization of N-methyl stilbazolium dialkylsulfosuccinates (MeStz/2CnSS, n = 12 - 18) were studied. In the crystalline phase shows the MeStz a fluorescence maximum at 450 nm, suggesting that the MeStz partly aggregated. Fluorescence intensity of the MeStz was increased on heating to the first transition at 83℃. Regioselectivity for photodimerization of the MeStz was perturbed at around 60℃, corresponding to the critical temperature for fluorescence spectral shift. These results suggest that MeStz was rearranged before the phase transition from the crystal to the S_A phase.
