In order to obtain polymer films of highly conductive phthalocyanine (Pc)-based liquid crystals exhibiting homeotropic alignment, three novel Pc derivatives (1a-c) substituted by six dialkoxyphenoxy groups and a dodecyloxy group (spacer) were synthesized. At the end of the dodecyl group was furthermore attached a norbornene as a polymerizable group. Hereupon, the polymerization conditions have been investigated to fix the spontaneous perfect homeotropic alignment of these corresponding monomers (2a-c). We found a successful polymerization condition, on which the obtained polymers (3a-b) exhibited stable perfect homeotropic alignment from r. t. to 200℃.
