Mesomorphic phase and its structure of 1.4-dibenzyloxybenzene derivatives

Abstract

The relationship between structure of liquid crystals and molecules was studied on 1,4-dibenzyloxybenzene and a benzoic acid derivative using X-ray measurements.The molecular length of 4-dodecyloxybenzoic acid dimer by X-ray structure analysis is 37.5 Å and the obtained tilt angle is 37.6 ºfor the SmC phase at 378 K.
