Abstract
We have developed new alignment method of liquid crystal molecules by hydrophilic/hydrophobic patterning technique. This method of patterning can be accomplished by photocatalysis effect of TiO2. We found that 10-micrometer order hydrophilic/hydrophobic stripe pattern was successfully fabricated with ability to align liquid crystal molecules parallel to that stripe. This technique is possible to be applied to domain divided vertical alignment LCD without patterned electrode and protrusion.
