Abstract
The composite technique of the low-angle gradient shaving preparation of a thin film with the polarized micro-Raman spectroscopy successfully determines the depth-dependent molecular orientations for WV films, optical compensation films for TN-mode LCDs. The situation is directly observed that the orientation of the polymerized discotic materials (PDM) is changing within the layer consisting of the PDM itself. It has been elucidated that the PDM skeletons are oriented with a varied degree of distribution, and that, as an average orientation direction, the PDM skeletons gradually stand upright towards the surface.
