A shaded aperture by area-modulative liquid crystal cell

Abstract

A TN liquid crystal cell with a shaded aperture is made by applying the four signals on the cell. The transmittance distribution of the cell gives an optical transfer function with a high gain and no phase inversion up to the higher space frequency like Hanning function. The high quality images are obtained by the LC lens shutter in both cases of the Siemens chart and the outdoor scene shots.
