Abstract
In this research, we tried to stabilize ferroelectric states of columnar liquid crystalline ureas by polymerization. Realization of the ferroelectric columnar phases would lead development of high density memory devices. We synthesized novel liquid crystalline ureas possessing bromine groups at terminals of the alkokyl chains, and investigated their mesophase by polarized optical microscopy (POM) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). In addition, we investigated their ferroelectric switching behaviors by applying a triangular wave voltage.
